The Art from the Heart

Art is eternal, but the life is short. So we say the art is divine. Many of us are gifted, but we do not try to open the package. But Mrs. Sandhia Biju dared to do it. What distinguishes Mrs. Sandhia Biju, born and brought up at Thompramkudi village, Idukki District, a remote place in the high ranges is the anguish of the artist which she kept burning despite all her limitations and predicaments. Only rarely we find such a resoluteness to take up the career of an artist with ardent pursuance and persistence. The paintings of Mrs. Sandhia Biju display sheer talent she is endowed with. Her only guide is her imagination in the absence of rigorous training in painting scantly available in the high Ranges. She began to draw and paint as early as a child and her fascination for colours attracted the attention of parents and who encouraged her to go ahead with the talent. She also managed to gain a little formal training in mural painting under the guidance of Artist Ajith Kumar. With this meager asset, she fared well in various media of painting guided solely by talent.

For the last 11 years since her marriage she has been on a constant search for cutting a niche for her in the world of artists trying to develop a unique style of her which she feels is an unending pursuit under the patronage and support of her husband. She has not conducted any exclusive exhibitions of her own but a display of a few pictures at the Kalarikkal Art Gallery and Inaugurated by famous Artist MV Devan. Though Mrs. Sandhia Biju is adept in all painting media like Water colour, Acrylic and even pencil she focuses on Oil colour. The Fabric painting done by her on Sarees in mural style is amazing and enticing. Her first solo painting exhibition took place at Durbar hall Kochi on 15- Aug- 2016.

The peculiar features of her paintings are the sense in colour selection and combination and sharp lines thrusting shapes and forms in our minds. The colours leave an impression of merge and flow fusing with the wholeness of the picture. Imagination to paint the minuteness of each part lends vividness to all her depictions.
